The Abola Shawl – Craft Collection Edition

Born from quiet hands. Crocheted in the rhythm of breath.
Each loop is intention. Each knot is a moment of presence.

The Abola Shawl is not simply a wrap—it is a sculpture of warmth, a wearable meditation. Created by artisan Essie Mae in Los Angeles, this shawl is crafted, stitch by stitch, in the lost language of slow creation. Each loop carries intention, each knot a moment of presence — transforming yarn into sculpture, warmth into story. This isn’t a piece of clothing; it’s a meditation in motion.

Its name, Abola — meaning “embrace” in a language of ancient weavers — reflects its purpose: to wrap, to hold, to remind us of connection. Inspired by ancestral textiles and the women who carried wisdom in their craft, the Abola Shawl bridges the tactile past with a modern silhouette, equally at home in the city or under open sky.

Part of the Amerigo Icono Craft Collection, each shawl is one-for-one — for every Abola sold, another is commissioned from a local Los Angeles artisan. It’s a celebration of handwork, heritage, and human touch.

Craft & Ethos

  • 100 % premium hand-crocheted yarn in a dramatic, heavy open-lace weave—the kind of craftsmanship reserved for atelier pieces, not mass-production.

  • Oversized hooded design with hand-knotted fringe; sculptural drape to flatter all forms—it’s one size, universality in form.

  • Colour: Deep Earth—a natural brown tone that echoes soil, strength, rootedness, and city grit.

  • One-for-one initiative: For every Abola sold, another is commissioned from a local Los Angeles artisan. Fair pay. Local production. Zero compromise.

  • Designed and hand-crocheted by Essie Mae in Los Angeles.

  • Edition: One-for-one. Hand-crocheted. Unhurried. Unrepeatable.

Why you’ll wear it

Because you demand more than clothing—you demand narrative.
Wear it as a drape on concrete mornings, wrap it over a hoodie under neon city lights, let its fringe sweep the pavement as you step into dusk.
It’s both silence and movement. Strength and softness.
When you pull the hood up, you’re not hiding—you’re anchoring.
When you drop the fringe loose, you’re speaking loud.

Styling suggestions

  • Layer over your tailored street-jacket for a juxtaposition of heritage craft and urban edge.

  • At night, toss it over minimalist monochrome base layers; let the texture become the statement.

  • On travel days, let it double as a lightweight wrap—craft meets utility meets ritual.

  • Ensure it’s the final piece you pull on; let the shawl be the exclamation mark on your outfit.

Care & Fit

Hand wash cold. Reshape gently and lay flat to dry—the way it was created, slow and intentional.
One size fits all: the sculptural drape molds and conforms.
Colour may tone slightly over time—coal strength evolves into deeper character.
Keep away from rough hardware—to preserve the hand-knotted fringe and artisanal silhouette.

Authentication & Provenance

Every Craft Collection piece includes digital authentication technology:

  • Embedded NFC / QR component

  • Links to a permanent digital certificate of authenticity

  • Confirms origin, edition, and ownership history

Your shawl becomes part of a collectible archive
a record of craft and provenance.

Edition & Investment

This is not mass production. Each piece is a unique artisan edition—once the one-for-one counterpart in Los Angeles is commissioned, the number closes. Ownership means you carry the story forward.

When you purchase the Abola Shawl, you’re claiming more than a wrap—you’re investing in legacy, craft and connection.

Wrap yourself in intention. Carry the story forward.
